If you are a सिंह in Western astrology, you are most likely कर्क in Vedic astrology — about 81% of सिंहs are. सिंहs born २२ जुलै – १६ ऑगस्ट are कर्क; those born १७ ऑगस्ट – २२ ऑगस्ट stay सिंह. The two zodiacs are measured from different starting points and sit about 24 degrees apart.

What कर्क means in Vedic astrology
But Vedic astrology does not lead with your Sun sign
Less than you might expect. Vedic astrology leads with the Moon sign (rashi) and the rising sign (lagna) rather than the Sun, and both of those need your birth time as well as your date.
Most सिंहs — about 81% — are कर्क in Vedic astrology, because the sidereal zodiac runs roughly 24 degrees behind the tropical one used in the West.
Which सिंह dates stay सिंह in Vedic astrology?
सिंहs born २२ जुलै – १६ ऑगस्ट are कर्क in Vedic astrology, and those born १७ ऑगस्ट – २२ ऑगस्ट are सिंह. The boundary moves by about a day depending on the birth year.
Why is my Vedic sign different from my Western sign?
Western astrology measures the zodiac from the March equinox; Vedic astrology measures it from the fixed stars. The equinox drifts against the stars by about a degree every 72 years, and the gap now stands at roughly 24.2 degrees — most of a sign.
Is one of the two systems wrong?
Neither is a mistake. They are two different measuring conventions, each internally consistent and each with its own body of interpretation. The signs disagree because the starting points disagree, not because one has miscalculated.
Does my Vedic Sun sign matter as much as my Western one?
Less than you might expect. Vedic astrology leads with the Moon sign (rashi) and the rising sign (lagna) rather than the Sun, and both of those need your birth time as well as your date.
