Shubh muhurat in Frankfurt
Abhijit Muhurat12:58 PM – 1:53 PM
Rahu Kaal — avoid4:51 PM – 6:33 PM
The tradition names no separate muhurat for this festival — it is observed through the day. Abhijit is the day’s generally auspicious window and Rahu Kaal the one to avoid.
Vishu is Kerala’s astrological new year, the first day of Medam, and the very same Mesha Sankranti that Tamil Nadu keeps as Puthandu. Kerala dates it by the following dawn rather than by sunset, because the observance is the Vishukkani — the first thing the eye falls on in the new year — so an ingress that lands mid-morning belongs to the next morning.
How it is observed
The kani is arranged the night before: konna blossom, rice, a mirror, gold, a lit lamp and an image of Krishna, set out so that it is the first sight of someone led in at dawn with their eyes closed. Elders then give Vishukkaineettam, a coin pressed into the hand, and the day closes with a sadya.
Vishu 2026 in Frankfurt is on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
Is Vishu 2026 on the same day in Frankfurt as in India?
No. Vishu is on Apr 14, 2026 in Frankfurt but Apr 15, 2026 in India. The tithi begins at one moment worldwide, and that moment lands on a different local day in each place.
What else is Vishu called?
Vishu is also known as Vishukkani, Vishu Kani, Malayalam New Year, Vishu Kaineettam. These are regional names and spellings for the same festival.
