What is Govardhan Puja?
Govardhan Puja recalls Krishna lifting Mount Govardhan on a fingertip to shelter Braj from Indra’s storm. It falls the day after Diwali, on the first of the waxing moon in Kartik.
How it is observed
A hill of food — the annakut, "mountain of grain" — is built before the deity and shared out. In Gujarat the same day is kept as the new year.
