Rahu Kaal — avoid12:18 PM – 2:00 PM
The tradition names no separate muhurat for this festival — it is observed through the day. Abhijit is the day’s generally auspicious window and Rahu Kaal the one to avoid.
Vat Savitri commemorates Savitri, who followed Yama to reclaim her husband’s life. Married women keep it on the new moon closing Vaishakha in the north, and on the following full moon in Maharashtra and Gujarat — the same story, two reckonings.
How it is observed
Women fast and wind thread around a banyan (vat) tree while circling it, retelling Savitri’s argument with Death.
