சுருக்கமாக

Where the Children’s bedroom belongs

A child’s room is read differently from the master bedroom: it wants movement, growth and morning light rather than weight. The tradition is also more relaxed here, and school-age and adult children are often placed differently.

Best placed in the East · West · North-West

East. East suits a child’s room: first light, growth and the morning start the tradition wants for anyone still studying.

West. West is a settled, accepted placement for a child’s room and is often preferred for older children — the tradition reads it as steadiness after effort, which suits exam years.

North-West. The north-west is the corner of movement, which the tradition reads as suiting children approaching the age of leaving — students, and young adults about to move out.

Kept out of the South-East · South-West

South-East. The fire corner is read as too hot for a child’s sleep — associated with restlessness and irritability. Where it is fixed, keep the room cool in colour, the bed to the room’s south-west, and screens out of it.

South-West. The south-west is the parents’ corner in the tradition’s reading, and a child placed there is held to take on weight that is not theirs to carry. Where it cannot change, the room is kept light and the bed moved to its west side.

Which direction is best for a Children’s bedroom?

Which direction should a Children’s bedroom avoid?

South-East, South-West — The fire corner is read as too hot for a child’s sleep — associated with restlessness and irritability. Where it is fixed, keep the room cool in colour, the bed to the room’s south-west, and screens out of it.

Do I have to rebuild if a room is in the wrong place?

No. The tradition assumes you cannot move a kitchen or a staircase, which is why almost every placement rule comes with a remedy — usually a change within the room (where the hob sits, which way the bed faces, what is stored in a corner) rather than a change to the building.
