If it cannot be moved
The south-west is the parents’ corner in the tradition’s reading, and a child placed there is held to take on weight that is not theirs to carry. Where it cannot change, the room is kept light and the bed moved to its west side.
What the South-West governs
The south-west — Nairutya — is the earth corner: the heaviest, most grounded part of the plan. It is where the tradition puts what should not move, which is why the master bedroom and the structural mass belong here and water does not.
Where the Children’s bedroom belongs
A child’s room is read differently from the master bedroom: it wants movement, growth and morning light rather than weight. The tradition is also more relaxed here, and school-age and adult children are often placed differently.
