Best placed in the North
A living room in the north is the placement the tradition associates with the household’s public face and with money arriving. Keep the north wall of the room light and the seating facing east or north.
What the North governs
North is Kubera’s direction, the one the tradition associates with wealth and with opportunity arriving. It is kept light and unobstructed: openings, windows and low, empty corners rather than heavy storage.
Where the Living room belongs
The living room is where the household meets guests, so the tradition places it in the open, light half of the plan and keeps the seating arrangement — not just the room — in view: the head of the household faces east or north.
