The south-west is the heaviest corner and the tradition reserves it for rest rather than for reception. Where the living room is fixed there, keep the heavy furniture in that corner of the room and seat guests facing north or east.
What the নৈঋত্য governs
The south-west — Nairutya — is the earth corner: the heaviest, most grounded part of the plan. It is where the tradition puts what should not move, which is why the master bedroom and the structural mass belong here and water does not.
Where the বৈঠক belongs
The living room is where the household meets guests, so the tradition places it in the open, light half of the plan and keeps the seating arrangement — not just the room — in view: the head of the household faces east or north.
